Session Learning Objectives
Define the evolving role and scope of practice of a newly graduated Physician Assistant (PA) within the Canadian healthcare system, including strategies for establishing a new PA role, navigating early clinical responsibilities, and achieving balance between autonomy and physician supervision.
Differentiate the clinical expectations of clerkship from those of independent practice, and identify key strategies and habits formed during clinical rotations that support a successful transition to a professional PA role. Offer practical recommendations for current students preparing for entry into practice.
Reflect on the challenges and successes during the transition to practice, including self-assessment of preparedness, recognizing gaps, and identifying appropriate times and methods for engaging the broader interprofessional care team for support and collaboration.
Apply clinical reasoning and decision-making skills through the analysis of real-world case studies presented by recent PA graduates, with a focus on interprofessional collaboration, communication strategies, and navigating uncertainty in early practice.
There will be time for questions at the end of the presentation. To ensure that questions are answered within the time allotted, you are encouraged to submit questions through this form in advance.
